Dear Vinny,

I'm considering buying a property that is home to an endangered species. How would this affect my ability to work and enjoy the land? How does this affect the future value of the land?

Dear Endangered,

Having an endangered species on land that you own is unique. Depending on the species, I would check with the local Fish, Wildlife, and Parks office to ask about their plan to manage the endangered species. Even with an endangered species on your property, your ability to work and enjoy the land shouldn't be impacted. However, I highly recommend being a good neighbor and steward and using the land in a way that may help said endangered species survive and thrive in their environment. If you had a T-Rex on your land, I would expect the price to skyrocket, but for the most part, I suspect values staying consistent regardless of the presence of an endangered species.
