My house is located in a floodplain, and I’m concerned about the potential risks and regulations associated with this. Can I sell my property? Are there specific considerations and steps I should be aware of before putting it on the market?

Dear Floodplain,

You absolutely can sell. You will want to ensure you disclose that the property is in the floodplain on your property disclosure statement. You will also want to ensure your broker informs all potential buyers looking at the property. In certain situations, there are ways to remove your home from the floodplain, and a good engineering firm may be able to help you with that.
